Emulsifiers.. “The Theory”

Many carpet cleaners do not use an emulsifier because of the following reasons:

1.. “I am concerned about leaving residues”

2.. “It costs me more money”

3.. “I don’t know the benefits”

When using a professionally formulated minimum-residue emulsifier, let’s share some cleaning principles about Emulsifiers.

Residues:

Water is not a good cleaner on its own as it has a high surface tension. Emulsifiers with good quality surfactants (wetting agents) make the water ‘wetter’ and improve its ability to penetrate fibres and release soil making the extraction process is more thorough.

Water conditioned with as little as 1ml/L of Prochem’s Liquid Slurry (S876) quickly penetrates the fibres, emulsifies and suspends the detergent/soil residues for easy removal by the wand. The ‘residues’ that we fear we leave behind after using a professional emulsifier such as Prochem’s Heatwave (S778) or Liquid Slurry (S876) are fibre friendly, dry to a non-sticky powder and do not attract any resoiling. Prespray residues on the other hand that remain after rinsing with clean water only and can attract dirt like a magnet.

Time saving

An emulsifier is a good cleaner on its own and it also provides a great support to your prespray. There is no need to prespray lightly soiled areas when you use a good quality emulsifier. Simply clean the carpet with the emulsifier running through your machine alone. If the traffic areas are the only soiled areas, prespray them only. This is your first saving on both time and chemical.

The second saving is that soiled carpets come clean substantially easier and quicker then when rinsing with clear water alone. The emulsifier does the work for you in a single stroke. This saves you time on the job, the amount of energy you expend, chemical costs and the amount of water you put on the carpet.

Improved Drying Times

1. Because less wand strokes are required to flush away the detergent and soil residues, carpets are left dryer.

2. Detergent residues trap a significant amount of moisture even after a dry stroke with the wand. The effective removal of these detergent/soil residues by extracting with an emulsifier substantially contributes to the quick release of moisture to evaporation.

Save Money

Chemicals should be one of your LOWEST expenses particularly if you choose a quality product. Emulsifiers equate to less than 1% of your job cost but you save so much more.

Prochem’s Heatwave costs $0.01 cent per RTU litre. A 3 to 4 bedroom house (approx 100m) will cost approx. $1.12 which is negligible in comparison to what you will save in labour costs (soil is released and flushed away easier and quicker), prespray costs (you only need to prespray heavily soiled areas), and costly call backs.

Quicker drying times will also give you greater customer satisfaction and more referrals.
